On May 13, 2013, Schnader partner and New Leash on Life USA Board Member Denny Shupe presented the keynote address at the graduation ceremony for the 6th class of the New Leash on Life prison dog training program. New Leash on Life USA is a unique prison-dog training program, which saves the lives of at-risk shelter dogs by training prison inmates to care for and socialize them, thereby enhancing their adoptability.

New Leash provides weekly sessions with professional trainers, animal behaviorists and veterinary technicians; job readiness and life skill courses to improve successful re-entry and employability for inmates upon parole; internship opportunities for paroled inmates for additional training and education in the animal care field; and post-parole support with worksite transition services.

“New Leash addresses the core values and principles that govern humanity and society: Respect. Teamwork. Forgiveness. Second Chances. Hard Work. Not being afraid to make a mistake. Never giving up. Supporting each other. Believing in the power of yourself and others. Never doubting that this world in which we live can be – and indeed must be – a better place,” said Mr. Shupe

He also commented that since Schnader became involved in supporting New Leash on Life, approximately 20 Schnader attorneys from our Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cherry Hill, Washington, DC and San Francisco offices have spent more than 325 hours of pro bono legal time assisting New Leash.
